The soundtrack is mostly good, especially the song " Keep Holding On" by Avril Lavigne.Also Ed Speelers, while still seeming kind of green, at least does look like he's trying. Jeremy Irons gives probably the only decent performance in the film, getting the most out of the material he's given.However, Eldest (the next book in the series) was never filmed and thus officially canceled. Then shortly before the credits roll, Galbatorix, the film's Big Bad slices open a large tapestry to reveal his own Dragon (Shruikan, which would presumably do battle with Eragon in the sequel. Sequel baiting: There is the ending scene where Eragon and his dragon defeating the forces of evil.Terrible lip syncing at the 3rd part of the movie, that also includes even humans.John Malkovich is in full-on 'just here for the payday' mode playing Galbatorix.Why exactly did Brom not tell Eragon about arrows needing to pierce Durza's heart to kill him before storming his lair instead of after?.Triple dose of Deus Ex Machina saving Eragon in his first showdown with Durza: first it's Brom swooping in and taking the arrow (when he hadn't even been shown to be in the building before), then it's Saphira breaking through the roof, and then Murtagh (who hadn't even appeared before this point in the movie) showing up out of nowhere to shoot at the soldiers to prevent them from surrounding Eragon before they can escape.Most of Eragon's learning in magic/ancient language happens off-screen, making it confusing enough.Hearing Saphira's thoughts doesn't really add anything to the story most of the time.Instead, he's turned into just another generic power-hungry traitor. Galbatorix going mad from the loss of his dragon, which is a key part of his backstory in the book, is removed in the movie.Eragon and Brom's first battle with soldiers has a dark setting and shaky camera work that doesn't really allow to see what's happening.The presumed main antagonist, Galbatorix, has far too little screen time to be developed into a villain whose defeat we should actually want to watch.

Oh, along the way he stops to save the love child of Arwen and Princess Leia with the help of Aragorn crossed with Han Solo. With the help of an Obi-wan meets Gandalf sort of mentor, he sets out to save the wizarding world and half of Middle Earth by using Elven magic to defeat the equivalent of Voldemort wearing Sauron’s Ring of Power and his right hand sidekick who is the perfect amalgam of Saruman, Wormtongue and a Balrog-riding Darth Maul. The final product is the story of a young, poor, bizarre combination of Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter joined up with the female counterpart to Draco from Dragonheart. It’s a pleasant enough fantasy tale for younger teen audiences and even if that’s how it was meant to go, that’s not what comes across on the screen. Along the way he saves a warrior princess named Arya (Sienna Guillory) with the help of a mysterious ally, Murtagh (Garrett Hedlund). Eragon’s special bond with the dragon, named Saphira (Rachel Weisz), grants him the ability to use magic, and together the two will be able to defeat the evil King (John Malkovich) and his sorcerer henchman Durza (Robert Carlyle). A roguish old man from the village, Brom (Jeremy Irons), discovers Eragon’s little secret and reveals to him that the boy is the last of a dying breed of warriors known as the Dragon Riders. To his amazement the stone hatches and a magical dragon emerges, one of the last of its kind. The story seems to have been meant to go something like this: a young, poor farm boy by the name of Eragon (Edward Speleers) comes across a strange blue stone while hunting in the woods.
